Explore the nuanced differences between the euphonium and baritone, a question that stirs curiosity among musicians and enthusiasts alike. “Oh, you’re a musician? What instrument do you play?” It’s a simple enough question. And it’s one that, for 99.9 percent of musicians, has a simple answer. Unfortunately, we euphonium players make up a fair portion of that .1 percent. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said to someone, “I play the euphonium,” only to be met with a confused pause, followed by the inevitable, “What’s that?” My response to that response is almost always one of two: either “it’s like a baby tuba,” (usually gets a chuckle) or “…the baritone?” Aha! The recognition I see in the other person’s eyes tells me I’ve cracked the code for them. They know what a baritone is. Maybe they played it in middle school? Or knew someone who did? Or their child does? Or did? Whatever the case, these interactions touch on an all-too-common question, even within the band world: “What is the difference between a baritone and a euphonium?” Are they the same instrument? We often focus a lot more on choosing the right trumpet but, choosing the right mouthpiece may have as much or more of an impact on your playing than choosing the right trumpet. For many families, the easiest option is to rent. Renting with Paige’s Music is a great opportunity to participate in music-making. We make rental easy and convenient and provide you with peace of mind. All of our band and orchestra rentals include free repair and replacement, free deliveries and pick-up, exchange, return, and early purchase discount options. We have several convenient options for renting an instrument on our Debut Rental plan. The most convenient option for renting an instrument is our online Option. You will select your school and your instrument and our system will autofill everything selected by your director for that instrument. Ignoring those bell dents? Send your instrument in for repair. Sticky flute pads? Send your instrument in for repair. Is your instrument dirty? Send it in for cleaning. If you have a rental instrument, all repair and maintenance is already covered and you should make use of your included coverage whenever an issue of any sort arises. Sending in your instrument during summer break means you are less likely to miss any valuable rehearsal or class time. Should I return my rental instrument? You should keep your rental instrument over the summer if your student is going to continue in band or orchestra next school year. Your student will be able to practice and be ready to play once the new school year begins. Your student should make an effort to pick up and play their instrument every day and play it even if it’s just for a few minutes. This will keep them engaged ready to go and make it easy to return to class and rehearsal without having to worry about re-learning their instrument. You should only return your rental instrument if you are absolutely certain your student will not continue in their band and orchestra class next

How Do I Send My Instrument In For Repair – FAQ

Sending an instrument into Paige’s Music for repair is a very easy process. Here’s what you need to do: 1. Call us at 1-800-382-1099 to let us know that your instrument needs service. We’ll arrange for a loaner to be sent to your school so your student isn’t without an instrument for class. TIP: You’ll need to keep your mouthpiece, bow, reeds, and cleaning items with you so that you’ll have them to use with the loaner until your instrument is returned to you. 2. See your director to fill out our repair tag. A properly filled out repair tag is of vital importance in processing your repair and getting it back to you in a timely matter. Here are a few things to keep in mind: School name – Just an example: We call on seven schools with the name Lincoln in it. Important to have the complete name. Lincoln JH, Lincoln MS etc. Students name- Important. Especially when last name is different from Parent’s Parent’s name- Vital! FAQ: How Do I Know If I Need To Upgrade My Instrument?

At Paige’s Music, we offer a wide variety of instruments that are substantial upgrades or step-ups to the standard student level instruments most musicians start with. How do you know you need a higher quality instrument? Here are a few questions to ask: How is my instrument holding me back? For example, you are at a point where you have mastered the C major scale and can play it in consistent 16th notes at 120 beats per minute. Despite your great technique, no matter how much you clean and oil your valves, they just do not move as fast as you need them to move and it becomes very difficult to make each note speak clearly. When you come to this conclusion, it is time to try a more advanced trumpet with lighter, faster valves.
