2020 Indiana Percussion Association Virtual Clinic Week

WHAT: 2020 Indiana Percussion Association Clinic Week WHEN: Monday: November 30th, 2020 thru Saturday: December 5th, 2020 WHERE: IPA You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJIuk3ChZTcTdQqyZLdujew With many great clinics lined up throughout the week, this is FREE week long clinic being put on by the Indiana Percussion Association in support of the many students and directors for the upcoming 2021 indoor percussion season. A great opportunity to keep your students engaged and learn from some of the best people in the activity. The week-long clinic will culminate with performances by High Octane, Ball State University Percussion Ensemble, Indiana State University Percussion Ensemble, Mark Ford, and Jeff Queen and Nick Angelis with Blast from the Past! In addition to the great clinic opportunities, they will be giving away a free lesson with Dr. Jimmy Finnie, percussion professor at Indiana State University. This is open to an student in IPA, great for college prep, individual/ensemble feedback. It’s finally here, the final week of winter percussion! WGI Finals, hosted primarily in Dayton, OH, will start early Wednesday morning and conclude late Saturday night. Once again, Chops Percussion will be heading out to finals to support the groups that make our success possible. We are truly fortunate to have 14 groups from Indiana this year, a #TeamIndiana Record! Although we hope you are able to attend finals in person; there are other great ways to follow your favorite groups and us as we head to Dayton. 2018 Indiana Percussion Association Clinic Day and I&E Competition

WHAT: 2018 Indiana Percussion Association Clinic Day and I&E Competition WHEN: Saturday, December 8th, 9am-5pm (on-site registration begins at 8am) WHERE: Plainfield High School HOW: On-line registration is NOW OPEN!  On-site registration the day of the clinic will begin at 8am. Cost will be $15/person pre-registration or $20 at the door. Lunch is not included but the Plainfield Band Boosters will have lunch concessions available. Clinic Day Group Registration: https://tinyurl.com/y9frohml IPA will be going with a more “hands on” approach that will allow the students to participate in a total of six, 50 minute hands-on master classes throughout the day! The goal of each clinician is to give your students 2-3 things that they can apply instantlyto their current playing situations.

2018 Indiana Percussion Association State Finals

Chops Percussion was proud to once again be the presenting sponsor of the Indiana Percussion Association.  It was an exciting day of performances at the Hulman Center of Indiana State University, and Terre Haute South High School. We’d like to congratulate the IPA board, ISU volunteers, and everyone at Terre Haute South who did such a great job of making it a fantastic day and great experience for everyone.  We would also like to congratulate all the students, staff and parents on another exciting year of great performances.  It’s amazing what these young musicians are able to achieve, and the talent level seems to increase every year.  Congratulations to everyone involved with performing and constructing these shows, along with all the support staff who made it possible for the students and staff to do what they do!

Tips for Indoor Drumline – Warming Up Outside

This weekend is the only IPA show of the season that requires an outside warmup.  Those groups who have performed in Dayton for WGI Championships or participate in circuits in warmer regions of the country know this is a normal process.  The outside extended warmup can be very beneficial to preparing for the large arena environment.  But for those who have not gone through that process before, here are some tips to make sure the experience is smooth and beneficial for everyone.

Indiana Percussion Association – Marching To State Finals

Indoor Percussion season is in full swing and we’re proud to once again be the Presenting Sponsor for the Indiana Percussion Association. This weekend starts the march to state finals, with State Prelims and Divisional Finals at Avon High School and Decatur Central High School. Check out the schedules at the links above.  Once this weekend’s preliminary events are complete, the State Finals schedule will be available here.  State Finals will once again be at the Hulman Center, on the campus of Indiana State University. We’ll be running a booth at state prelims (Avon site) and state finals, so if you’re attending either of these, make sure to stop by and say hi! We’ll have lots of sticks, practice pads, mallets, stick bags, t-shirts, and many other items to choose from. It would be a great time to try out all the different sticks and pads and take something home! If you go to any shows, let us know what you think on our Facebook page! Now that most of you are getting into the contest portion of your indoor season, you find yourselves rehearsing your group on the basics of getting on and off the competition floor in a swift and stress-free manner. Indiana Percussion Association Clinic Day 2016

The 2016 IPA Clinic Day will feature artists with various percussive specialities. All students, directors, and educators will be able to choose between clinics and masterclasses throughout the day. They have also opened up one of the only wind clinics and cymbal clinics thanks to the X Academy and Seavine. The 2016 clinic day will truly have something for everyone! Any further questions can be directed to: [email protected] Please note that the cymbal and winds clinics are more expensive than the percussion clinics. There are more items given in these clinics and will be geared more in a teaching masterclass setting. Please plan to bring and instrument for these. Highlights BYOS will be back again this year with a hands on masterclass in how to perform many of their stick tricks. They will be debuting their ABC’s of stick tricks that explores a new musical language in which each student is challenged to learn in order to communicate new ideas with one another. BYOS will also be giving a group clinic at the end of the day with Amir on drumset and quads.
