Here at Paige’s Music, we are well stocked with accessories that are perfect for the trumpet player in your life. Here are some of my favorites! Practice Mutes If you live in a smaller space or if your student doesn’t have a great place to practice without disturbing others, consider a practice mute. Here at Paige’s, we offer options from Shhmute to the Yamaha Silent Brass system and more. Personally, I own both the Shhmute and the Silent Brass system and use them frequently. Valve Oil Valve Oil is a must-have care accessory that every trumpet player should keep in their case. Trumpet players should oil their valves often to keep them moving smoothly. We carry a variety of valve oils in different brands, colors, and thicknesses (yes, we even have different colors!). Dr. Josh’s Summer Practice Tips for Trumpet Players

The summer months are very important in your development as a trumpet player. Many students will leave their trumpet in the case in a closet for 2-3 months which is a terrible idea! Can you imagine not walking or running for 2-3 months and then trying to run a 5K or 10K? If you don’t play your trumpet all summer, that is essentially what you are doing to yourself! We use facial muscles to play the trumpet and as with any other muscle in the body, if you don’t use it then you lose it. So, it is vital that you practice your trumpet to at least maintain the growth and endurance that you had during the school year. Check out these tips for practicing over the summer: 1. Listening When I was in middle and high school, I did not realize the importance of listening to professional trumpet players. When you first learned to talk, you did so from listening to your parents and others. There are many speaking accents throughout the world and those are passed on from generation to generation through children listening to those around them and recreating what they’ve heard in their head through their

Dr. Josh’s Back To School Checklist

With the school year right around the corner, now is the perfect time to make sure you are ready with the supplies needed! We’ve got a great stock of everything that you’ll need to have up for the start of the school year. Here’s my recommendations for your back-to-school list: 1. Clean your Trumpet The summer is the perfect time to make sure your trumpet is ready to go for the school year. We highly recommend having your trumpet cleaned and serviced once a year. While the exterior of your trumpet may look fine, there are likely spots with build-up inside from playing during the school year that you will want to have cleaned out to prevent future issues. We can provide a loaner for the week it will take to clean and repair the trumpet to make sure you are able to practice! 2. Valve Oil It is very important to make sure that you have at least one full bottle of valve oil for the start of the school year. You should be putting oil on your trumpet valves at least once a week to make sure that they stay in tip-top shape! We have a wonderful selection

Summer Trumpet Inventory – Updated 7/2024

These are exciting times at Paige’s Music! Our trumpet inventory is growing! We have more trumpet models in stock than ever before, and I am so excited to share the models that we have in inventory that we’ve received over the last year. These trumpets are amazing and while we plan to keep them in stock regularly, some of these models have a longer wait time from the manufacturer because of their popularity in the trumpet industry. So, if you see a trumpet that you are interested in, reach out to me first to make sure that it is still available, then, stop by the store to try them out! Check out this list ordered by the manufacturer of our new inventory! Bach 170S43GYR This Bach 170 model features a new 6R lead pipe that has a very quick response. This trumpet is a lot of fun to play. The main difference between the 170 line and the 180 is the bell. The bell of the trumpet is one of the hardest and most time-consuming pieces to make on the trumpet. So, this model features a 2-piece bell. The stem of the bell is gold brass while the flare is

Dr. Josh’s End Of Year Check List

As the school year comes to an end, we want to make sure you know what to do with your student’s instrument and share some things that Paige’s Music has to offer! Below you will find two checklists. One is if your student is continuing in band next year, and the other is if your student is not going to continue next year. Please remember that your rental agreement with us is rent-to-own. So, if your student is going to be in band next year, you do not want to return the instrument, as you will lose all the payments you have made towards the ownership of the instrument and will have to either restart the agreement in the fall or pay for the summer months to reinstate the contract.

Finding The Perfect Trumpet Mouthpiece Part 1: Where Do You Start?

Choosing the right mouthpiece is often overlooked for middle school and high school trumpet students. We often focus a lot more on choosing the right trumpet but, choosing the right mouthpiece may have as much or more of an impact on your playing than choosing the right trumpet. Here are some things that you should consider when you start to look for a mouthpiece: Try Before You Buy: In my opinion, it is extremely important to try out the mouthpiece before you purchase it. Here at Paige’s Music, we have a great stock of different trumpet mouthpieces from different manufacturers. Although doing research online or talking with your teacher is an important step, trying the mouthpiece out for yourself is vital. Please make sure you try out the mouthpiece either by borrowing one from someone or stopping by Paige’s Music. You won’t regret it, I promise. Lip Size/Shape Matters: I often use the analogy that a mouthpiece is like a shoe. Your lip size and shape are important in determining what mouthpiece you should use. Personally, I have large lips, so I play on a large mouthpiece. For a long time, I played on a smaller mouthpiece because it was

Dr. Josh’s 5 Tips for ISSMA Prep

ISSMA Solo and Ensemble is only a few weeks away! All of us at Paige’s Music are wishing you the best as you prepare for the competition. Here are a few tips to consider! Run the Full Piece – It’s really easy to just practice the easy parts and/or the hard parts of your piece and then we forget to run through the whole thing! You want to make sure to play through the piece multiple times without stopping before you go to competition. Unfortunately, I have seen students play through entire piece for the first time at competition and it usually does not go as well as they’d hoped. Practice for an audience – It is very common to be nervous playing in front of your friends, family, and the judges at contest. Make sure that you are practicing in front of others (maybe even a few people that make you nervous) so you feel a little more comfortable heading into your solo or ensemble performance! Simulate Getting Nervous – If you do get nervous, practice getting nervous so you know how to react! This can be done in a few different ways. You could play in front of
