Get Your Percussion Equipment Evaluations and On-Site Repairs done this summer

Summer break is right around the corner and there’s no better time to get your instruments evaluated than now! Chops Percussion and Paige’s Music’s repair department are willing to send a trained specialist to your school to assess your percussion inventory. Brian Travelsted, our percussion repair specialist and sales associate for Chops, will work with you in deciding the best course of action to get your inventory back in its best shape! Paige’s Music offers on-site repair for large percussion instruments such as timpani, mallet instruments, concert bass drums, etc. This service is intended to alleviate the need to send in large instruments with your District Manager and be without them for several weeks. If an instrument is not repairable, Brian will recommend the best replacement options to best suit your ensemble’s needs. No more waiting for your large instruments or going without because the instrument is waiting in the shop! You’re Never Too Old To Get Better

Welcome back to the Chops Blog! Today I wanted to share some personal experience and hope to inspire some of the older readers out there. Have you ever thought that maybe you’ve hit the ceiling from a musical standpoint? I think we all reach a point in our playing careers that cause us to reevaluate what we’re doing and how we’re approaching our craft. At some point, we have to decide if we’re going to do something about it, and I recently reached that point with my playing. I decided to see what kind of programs were out there to help me get better. I enrolled in the Todd Sucherman “Rock Drumming Masterclass” recently, and I wish that I had done something like that years ago.

Great Advice For New IPA Directors Regarding Schedules

Below is some great advice that came from an Indiana Percussion Association email last season that we thought was worth passing along again to everyone: IPA Contest Schedules Schedules for IPA can be found on the IPA website. Please remember that schedules are subject to change through the MONDAY prior to the event for minor adjustments. Advice for new directors regarding schedules: When building your itinerary for the day, start with your warm up time and work backward Allow at least 1 hour between arrival at contest site and transit to warm up. This will allow your kids plenty of time to unload/assemble, dress, and feel relaxed going into warm up. Identify travel time to the site and add at least 20 minutes for the slower bus travel times. Look at traffic maps for any delays you might encounter. Give plenty of time post rehearsal for Pack/load at home. Have a plan for your students/chaperones if you are staying for critique. Many directors have communication with their chaperones that allow them to send kids home while directors stay for critique. If not, be prepared that your kids could be waiting at least an hour for you after awards to

Todd Sucherman Masterclass Coming to Chops Percussion

Chops Percussion is very excited to announce that world-renowned musician Todd Sucherman will be doing a 3 hour masterclass at our store on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019. The event will begin promptly at 6:30 pm and go until 9:30 pm. Each person will get a chance to play the drums and get some performance tips from Todd. To have feedback from a musician of this caliber is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so we encourage players of all ages and ability levels to be a part of this special event. Please make sure you bring drumsticks and a practice pad. The charge per person for this masterclass is $200. There will be a non-refundable deposit of $150 taken the day of sign-up, with the other $50 being due the day of the masterclass. 2018 Indiana Percussion Association Clinic Day and I&E Competition

WHAT: 2018 Indiana Percussion Association Clinic Day and I&E Competition WHEN: Saturday, December 8th, 9am-5pm (on-site registration begins at 8am) WHERE: Plainfield High School HOW: On-line registration is NOW OPEN! On-site registration the day of the clinic will begin at 8am. Cost will be $15/person pre-registration or $20 at the door. Lunch is not included but the Plainfield Band Boosters will have lunch concessions available.
