Bio

Sarah DeVries absolutely loves passing on the joy of music to her students! She specializes in teaching clarinet and bass clarinet, but draws on a variety of teaching and performing experiences to help students succeed. As a member of various music ensembles, Sarah has performed in 5 other countries and 27 states across the US in well known stadiums and halls such as Carnegie Hall and the Alamo Dome. Highlights include playing with the Blue Stars Drum Corps, in the IU Orchestras and Wind Ensemble, and in the pit for several operas and musicals. She has also been repeatedly selected as the featured soloist with ensembles, worked for C.L. Barnhouse Music Publishing Company, and performed as a collaborative pianist. Currently, Sarah leads the large clarinet section of the Avon High School Marching Band and teaches privately at Avon Schools and Ben Davis High School.

Sarah has a Masters in Clarinet Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with Howard Klug. She also graduated summa cum laude from St. Olaf College in MN with a double-major in BM K-12 Instrumental Music Education and BM Clarinet Performance, where she studied with Scott Anderson. She is a member of the International Clarinet Association and National Education Association.

In her spare time, this farm girl loves reading nonfiction, baking, being involved at her church, exercising, and listening to podcasts. Feel free to contact her at sarahbdevries@gmail.com with any questions or if you’re interested in lessons!
