James served as the acting Assistant Principal Flute/Piccolo with the Vancouver Sym- phony Orchestra (Canada) for the 2019-2020 season. James has performed previously as guest principal flute with the San Diego Symphony, Tucson Symphony, Modesto Symphony Orchestra, and the San Diego Opera, as well as flute and piccolo with the Canton Symphony Orchestra. He has performed in many summer festivals, including the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, Centre d’Arts Orford Summer Masterclasses, and the Anatolia College Summer Music Festival in Thessaloniki, Greece.
James received a Bachelor of Music in Flute studying under Thomas Robertello at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and a Master of Music under Joshua Smith at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has competed successfully in competitions in- cluding the San Diego Flute Guild Young Artist Competition, San Diego Musical Merit Foundation, and the Tuesday Musical Association of Ohio. Busy as an educator as well as a performer, James has served on the faculty of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music, and continues to maintain a private teaching studio. He has worked with many non-profit arts organizations and educational outreach programs in the San Diego area, including the Art of Èlan, Villa Musica, Luscious Noise, and the Melles Chamber Music Foundation. James also proudly served as director of the Villa Musica Flute Ensemble.
