Bio

Originally from Brazil, Dr. Gilmar Cavalcante is a passionate musician committed to teaching, learning and serving. He earned a Doctor of Arts degree from Ball State University (Muncie, IN); a Master of Music Performance from Valdosta State University (Valdosta, GA); a certificate of specialist in music education from UCAM (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil); and a Bachelors of Music in trumpet performance from UFPB (João Pessoa, Brazil).

Dr. Cavalcante has experiences on both classical and popular styles and has presented in regional, national and international conferences, including the National Association for Post-Graduate Research in Music (ANPPOM) in Brazil and the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) in California. In addition to that, he has performed solo, chamber and lecture recitals in Brazil and the United States.

While in pursuit of his education, Dr. Cavalcante taught at the collegiate level, served on committees, including academic ethics, tenure and promotion, and developed skills in music technology and publishing. As a result, his students have achieved success in their fields, he published in the United States and abroad, including the International Trumpet Guild Journal and the Brazilian Trombone Association Journal, produced and released the albums “Double Action” and “Gilmar Cavalcante Interprets Estudos Bem-Humorados Para Trompete Solo by Fernando Morais,” and reissued the third edition of the book Daily Trumpet Exercises by Albert Ligotti. As a music entrepreneur, he created the music app PrestoGig in 2018.

Dr. Gilmar Cavalcante expects that the album and his Doctor of Arts dissertation “A Pedagogical Analysis of the Estudos Bem-Humortados Para Trompete Solo by Fernando Morais” will serve as a performance and pedagogical guides for musicians worldwide.
