Instrumentalist Cecily Terhune has been described as having, “the heart of a musician – an engaging performer and a natural teacher.” A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, she performs and teaches in a variety of styles and contexts. She currently teaches private lessons at Carmel and Noblesville High Schools and maintains her private studio. She performs regularly as a soloist and as a member of Audiodacity, the Sean Imboden Large Ensemble, the Urban Renewal Big Band, and the Hood/Terhune Duo among other ensembles.
Recent notable performances include a European tour as the Ball State Jazz Lab Ensemble’s lead alto saxophonist throughout Poland and the Czech Republic, a solo recital at Mukogawa Women’s University in Osaka, Japan, two solo performances at the Chautauqua Institution in New York, and concerto performances with the Ball State Symphony Orchestra and the Kokomo Park Band. As a member of Audiodacity, she has performed at Summer Camp, Mile of Music, Resonance, Livestock, and Good People Good Times music festivals.
Terhune completed her Master’s degree in music performance from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati after previously completing both a Bachelor’s degree and an Artist Diploma in music performance from Ball State University. While completing her AD at BSU, she held the jazz department assistantship under director and renowned jazz artist Mark Buselli. Terhune is the recipient of the Brian Minor Memorial Saxophone Scholarship, the Tom Shah Memorial Jazz Scholarship, and the Presser Music Scholarship.
