Dr. Albert Lilly holds a Bachelor of Music degree from DePauw University (Greencastle, IN), a Master of Music degree from Jordan College/Conservatory of Music at Butler University (Indianapolis, IN), and a Doctor of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (Bloomington, IN). He currently serves as the instructor of trumpet and horn at Marian University (Indianapolis, IN) and adjunct professor in the College of Adult and Graduate Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University (Marion, IN). He works with more that 20 high school and collegiate band programs throughout the country as arranger, consultant, or program coordinator. Bands he has directed or arranged for have won 19 state, circuit, or association titles, and literally hundreds of best music and best general effect awards. His work as an arranger is widely respected throughout the country. Dr. Lilly previously worked with programs including those at Carmel High School (Carmel, IN) and Martinsville High School (Martinsville, IN).
Dr. Lilly has served as a member of the artist-faculty for the National Trumpet Competition, and adjudicates state solo contest for ISSMA frequently. He also serves ISSMA as a member of the brass listing revision committee, selecting new works for the state solo competition list. Dr. Lilly teaches private music lesson to more than 30 students, and adjudicates concert festivals and competitions for the Indiana State School Music Association, the Indiana Music Educators Association, and the Mid-States Band Association.
As a trumpeter, Dr. Lilly has served at the principal trumpet of the Lafayette (IN) Symphony Orchestra, the Greencastle (IN) Chamber Orchestra, the Wabash College Chamber Symphony (Crawfordsville, IN), the Bach Chorale Chamber Orchestra (Lafayette, IN), the Indianapolis (IN) Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Bloomington (IN) Symphony Orchestra, and has a long list guest and substitute appearances with orchestras throughout the United States from San Francisco to New York, and many other locations. He currently serves as principal trumpet for the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra (Avon, IN) as part of the Hendricks Symphonic Society (Avon, IN). He previously served as President of the Board of Directors for the society. He has also performed as a guest soloist with many wind ensembles, jazz ensembles and orchestras. His trumpet work can be heard on National Public Radio, ESPN, and CBS Records, in addition to his substantial commercials and jingles work in the Indianapolis, Greencastle, and Terre Haute (IN) radio and television markets.
Dr. Lilly is currently an artist/clinician for the Vincent Bach Corporation, a division of the Conn/Selmer Corporation of Elkhart, IN. He offers presentations on brass instruments, assists customers with instrument selection and combinations of elements, and offers advice to those interested in Bach Brass instruments. He also performs exclusively on Vincent Bach trumpets as part of his many performances. To protect those instruments, he uses and endorses Torpedo Bags, a superb American-made case designed and created with all America-made part that are assembled in Minnesota. In addition to his trumpet work, Dr. Lilly is also an accomplished percussionist, and is a member of the Scholastic Educator Program with the Vic Firth Company.
